That sounds like a bug. Could you share an example (either here or via https://virtual-graph-paper.com/contact/) and indicate which line can't be directly selected?

If you select an element using the Select tool, you can then resize it by pressing the Scale button on the right-hand menu, or the S key

This is how it worked originally, but that feature has been recently broken because of a bug. Should be now fixed again!
(hold shift while refreshing the page to make sure you get the latest version)

Click "add to library" after making a selection and you can then find it under "Insert -> from library"
